Ergonomics is a ‘hot’ topic in the dental practice. As we all know, dentists and nurses spend significant amounts of time in working sessions during which it is common for them to assume positions that are not correct for their physical well-being. Muscle tensions, unnatural torsions, excessive loads: we are all too familiar with these consequences. Of a different origin, though equally important for work quality, is the stress felt by the patient lying in the chair. If he is uncomfortable, if he does not feel at ease, he becomes more impatient and less cooperative, making the work of the dental team difficult.
Freedom of movement
When designing a dental unit, it is therefore essential to provide innovative solutions that increase the ergonomic quality of the working environment in which the dentist and nurse operate. At VITALI, we have always relied on three concepts, or keywords, to implement our continuous improvements. The first is ‘freedom’. In fact, if you take a close look at our dental units, you will notice that the way they are designed allows the dentist to get as close as possible to the patient. This is thanks to the size and shape of the dental chair backrest and its short base that leaves ample legroom, thanks to the absence of cables and tubes in the way (especially in the versions with wi-fi foot control) and thanks to the rotation of the cuspidor (in models T5 MASTER and T5 EVO PLUS) which facilitates four-handed operations. In essence, we design dental units that promote maximum freedom of movement for the dentist and nurse.
Comfort for the patient
The second concept is “comfort”. This obviously benefits patients, as one of the greatest qualities of our units is precisely the comfort of their chair and backrest. This comes along with the easy access and exit at the start and end of treatment (also for patients with disabilities); the comfort of the rinsing position for all patients, young and old; the comfort of the headrest, which is perfectly adjustable so as to favour the correct position of the neck and mouth depending on the relevant treatment; the synchronous movement of the chair and backrest, favouring comfortable sitting and fast movement; and finally, the folding right armrest (optional) for additional patient support. Thanks to the renowned comfort of our units, patients are more relaxed during dental treatments.
Proven practicality
The third concept is “practicality”, a key work for us at VITALI, since it corresponds to our design philosophy, based on experience on on-site testing. In the VITALI dental units, the idea of ‘practicality’ takes the following shape for the dentist: easy positioning of the instrument table thanks to three articulation points, easy repositioning of the instruments without having to move one’s eyes from the operating field (in the arm version), easy grip of the instruments thanks to the block that avoids traction and wrist fatigue, easy positioning of the lamp for better illumination of the operating field. The practicality that inspires the design of our dental units is one of the reasons why many dentists repurchase them.
Along with the reliability and operational efficiency of VITALI dental units, ergonomics is one of the distinguishing features that we are most recognised for by customers and operators. At VITALI, where in 2023 we will celebrate our 70th anniversary, we have always believed that dental units are at the heart of the dental practice and therefore, looking to the future, our commitment is to continue working towards improving the well-being of both the dental team and the patient.
